Reptile Enclosure Guide

Are you lost on what you need for your animal habitat? Are you wondering what lighting or heating you should choose for your reptile cages? Well, look no further! Dragonhaus has compiled a list of the bare necessities you need for the most common household reptiles, arachnids, and small animals so you can build your terrariums with confidence!

 Terminology:

T5HO: this fixture gives keepers the capability to provide proper UVB light for their reptiles. Most small lizards require 1, but larger and specific species of reptiles need more fixtures to allow safe and appropriate lighting.

UVB: Too much can harm humans, but the cold-blooded reptiles love this! UVB is necessary for your reptile's synthesis of vitamin D3, which is essential for the effective metabolism of dietary calcium in its bones and blood. This can help prevent or even reverse Metabolic Bone Disease commonly found in reptiles raised in captivity.

Heat Lamp: Some reptiles love to bask in the heat of the sun, but due to the nature of being cared for by keepers, heat lamps are an excellent substitution for giving lizard habitats heating. A common concern with heat lamps is the safety of the animal and burn prevention. That is why we are proud to say that the Dragonhaus All-In-One heat fixtures are perfect for your reptile's safety.

LEDs: LEDs are often suggested when building a terrarium where the animal does not require specific lighting (Snakes, Spiders, Mice, etc.) However, our LED bars are perfect for stimulating plant growth by providing the proper light spectrum for most plants. These fixtures are notable for not only the overall health of your vivarium but also gives the keepers the ability to show off their animals!

Radiant Heat Panels: Designed to be used with a thermostat for proper temperature regulation, Radiant Heat Panels, or RHPs, emit infrared heat and are fantastic at providing a heat gradient throughout your enclosure. A significant upside when snake owners look at radiant heat panels is that the RHPs do not instantly burn while touching. This allows the animals to keep out of harm's way. However, Dragonhaus happily offers Radiant Heat Panel Mounts for keepers who want extra security Radiant Heat Panel Mounts.
